Sitch (Situations)

  • Sitch: SPACE HOGGING
  • solution: DRAW THE LINE: Divide the room in half. You don't literally have to paint a line on the floor, just use a rug to mark your territory.

  • sitch:VARYING INTEREST
  • solution: COMPLEMENT YOUR SPACES: You may be a girly girl while your roomie's an edgy chick, but your room doesn't need to look like one big mess! Pick prints that reflect booth styles but make sure to use similar hues. Another trick is to put your choice movie posters (no matter what genre in indentical frames.
  • sitch: CLUTTER MAGNET
  • solution: KEEP IT SEPARATED: Assign one type of storage box per person to make sure your things don't get mixed up. And gently remind her to keep her knicknacks hidden away in boxes

sitch:NO PRIVACY
solution: DIVY (DIVIDE) IT UP.: When buildin a wall isn't an option, go for the next best thing - a divider that you can set when you need some "me" time. The bonus? You can fold it right back up when you want to hang out with your sis or roomie.

Old way, new Way

There's more than one way to make your rooms look all net and pretty!

You've been living in the same room for years, but not much has changed. Your parents can't complain because you keep it nice and clean, but someone you feel like your stuck in a rut. Time to shake things up a bit. It's out with the old, and in with the new. With a few tweaks, you can put a totally different spin on your room!

1. Fixing your bed.
  • Old way: A plain, hotel-like arrangement in a monochromatic color scheme and matching pillow.
  • New Way: Funky mix of colors and prints, and plush blanket thrown over the foot of the bed,
2. Displaying your pictures.
  • Old way: Photos in matching frames all evenly line up on a wall.
  • New way: Different frames in complementing colors and styles - unify everything by having a "theme wall" of photos (in this case, baby pictures of family members. You can also try family pics or pics with your friends)
3. Arranging your Books on Shelves
  • Old way: Books are standing at attention, simply arrange by height with no other items mixed in
  • New way: A more free-form arrangement, where some books are upright while others are on their sides. Throw in unusual bookends, some knickknacks, and travel finds to make it more interesting.

Space Makers
Got a tiny bedroom? Here's how to claim your pace and stretch it?

1. Take Cover! An often-overlooked space is the area under your bed. Dump all the little things that clutter up your room into storage baskets and stash them under your bed.

2. Get a sneaky nightstand. Stacked storage boxes can work as a makeshift nightstand. And they're great for stashing your clutter, too!.

3. Live Large. An instant way to double your room's size? Mount mirrors on one wall - they've visually expand the space.

4. Give your bed a secret identity! Pile on the pillow in the day and use as a sofa - perfect for having friends over. At night, remove some pillows and drift off to dreamland!.

5. Mount it. Shallow, built-in shelves will take up less space than bulky - store brought shelves.

6. Go Vertical! You can have shelves installed near your ceiling to hold all your books. Just make sure you have a sturdy stepladder on hand. Also, lose the stand fan - opt for a ceiling fan to free up some precious floor place.

7. Lighten Up. Paint your room in cool hues such us blues and whites to make it seem larger.

8. Be Ceiling Savy. If you paint your ceiling a shade lighter than your walls, your ceiling will appear higher, and your room will seem larger and airy.
